HELLO!
We’re Kate and Dan and we hail from the fair city of Norwich in the United Kingdom.
At the slightly more mature ages of 33 and 44, our family and friends would often ask us when we were planning to buy a house and if marriage and kids were on the cards, so you can imagine their shock when we told them we had sold our car, we were moving out of our house, we had quit our jobs and we were travelling to Latin America for a whole year!
During our years as a couple, our passion for travel has taken us to some fantastic places but due to work commitments our travels were limited to one or two weeks at a time. We really liked our lives and we enjoyed our jobs but we couldn’t help feeling that something was missing. We’d often think – is this it? We worked hard and lived for the weekends but when they arrived we often felt too tired to do everything we wanted to. Our lives had become a little routine and we felt like we were on a treadmill that was getting faster and we couldn’t or didn’t want to keep up.
The idea of travelling the world for a longer period of time really excited us and we knew that the experiences and opportunities we’d have on a such a trip would be immense but at the same time the thought of giving up a good and secure life at home really terrified us. After lots of discussions, research and a few sleepless nights, we came to the conclusion that there would always be 100 reasons not to do it and the time was right to make the leap.
We’re pleased to say that we’ve never looked back! From the moment we arrived in Latin America we simply loved every step of the journey.
We created Latin Chattin’ to be a diary of our travels and to share the good times, the challenges, the laughter and thankfully the not so many tears. For those of you who have always dreamed of doing something similar but haven’t (yet) taken the plunge, we hope our open and honest travelling tales will inspire you and for those of you who have already ventured far and wide around the globe, we hope to remind you of some of your great experiences!
